ZHIZHOU ZHANG CHEAP PRINT

Cheap Print project explores the relationship between Vincent van
Gogh’s influential paintings and contemporary
photography/texture
practice. My interest area in Vincent van Gogh’s paintings is their
contemporary situation as ectypal images in various appearances
(such as postcards, website images and facsimiles), which are cheap,
fake and quickly-to-get. At the same time, the original paintings are
rarely appeared in people’s sight. My work apply this situation by
reconstructing Vincent van Gogh’s “The Starry Night 1889” and
“Sunflowers 1888” as photographs combined with textures. The
photographs address Vincent’s paintings into ordinary life forms
visually. Meanwhile, the textures as artist’s comments on the
photographs suggest inexistent visual elements, which leave open
narratives. |
